The program includes boys and girls ages 8-16 from central Iowa communities singing in three choirs: Concert Choir, Chorale and the Preparatory Choir. Sylvia Munsen founded the Ames Children's Choirs (ACC) program in 1995. She currently resides in Annapolis with her husband Grant and her children Jackson and Caroline.Īrtistic Director Dr. She is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, and the Maryland Music Educator's Association. Walker is a sought after clinician and guest conductor in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania conducting Elementary, Middle and High School honor choirs. Walker has also manages the Anne Arundel All County Middle School chorus and previously managed the Maryland Junior all State Chorus. In addition to her position at Central, Mrs. Her choirs have received Superior and Excellent ratings at both County and State Choral Adjudications. At Central, she teaches over 250 students in three different choral ensembles. Walker currently serves as the Director of Choral Music at Central Middle School in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Lauren Walker earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Choral Music Education from the University of Maryland and her Master's of Kodaly Music Education from Loyola University. They then have the difficult task of selecting the group of children who will form the next African Children's Choir. Once the children are selected, Choir Teams will spend a few days visiting the children's homes to determine their needs and suitability for tour life. Games, crafts, music and devotions are some of the activities the children look forward to at camp. These camps are fun and stimulating environments that provide a break from the daily hardships the young children face at home.įrom the hundreds of children who attend the camps, approximately 50 will be chosen to audition for the Choir. Before being selected to join the Choir, children, generally aged between 7 and 11 attend Music for Life camps. The African Children's Choir helps these children break away from the everyday cycle of poverty and hopelessness. Many have lost one or both parents to poverty or disease. The African Children's Choir is made up of some of the neediest and most vulnerable children in their countries.
